Go inside the halls of power

Dear Friends,

We’re taking a break from the Problem of Evil today. I recently saw an ad for a news website that said “Go inside the halls of power”, and over the next few days, that ad has evoked a mixture of pity and peace in my soul.

I truly pity any child of God who has bought into the lie that this is all there is. And I need pity myself when I live that lie. What a sad way to look at the world…to think that human power is the greatest power. To think that a president, a prime minister, a legislature, a judge, an emperor, or even a popular grassroots movement holds the ultimate trump card; how depressing!

Perhaps the person who wrote the ad understands that there is a greater Power; I don’t know. But it seems like we ourselves so often forget this greater Power.

Dear child of God, do you really want to go inside the halls of power? Yes, it is good to stay informed on current events, but if you want to connect with true power; if you want to get up close and personal to the One Whose voice melts the earth; the One Who sits in the heavens and laughs at the rebellious schemes of evil kings; then let me speak to you about The King of Kings.

This is power

I’m talking about the triune God now. I’m talking about Jehovah God, the One Who literally opened up the earth to swallow Korah, Dathan and Abiram.

I’m talking about Jesus Christ, the One Who spoke an armed band of hostile men to the ground by merely uttering the words “I am”.

I’m talking about the Holy Ghost, the One Who enabled Paul to pronounce a curse of blindness on Elymas the sorcerer.

I’m talking about the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, who slew an army of 185,000 Assyrians in one night.

This next passage, just read for yourself; I think you will get my drift!

[Deu 32:39-42 KJV] 39 See now that I, [even] I, [am] he, and [there is] no god with me: I kill, and I make alive; I wound, and I heal: neither [is there any] that can deliver out of my hand. 40 For I lift up my hand to heaven, and say, I live for ever. 41 If I whet my glittering sword, and mine hand take hold on judgment; I will render vengeance to mine enemies, and will reward them that hate me. 42 I will make mine arrows drunk with blood, and my sword shall devour flesh; [and that] with the blood of the slain and of the captives, from the beginning of revenges upon the enemy.

Now, I cannot transition to the next section without going back to the old standby, Daniel chapter 4. Read the next two verses and feel some pity for anyone who thinks that Donald Trump, or Nancy Pelosi, or “the people”, or any other political, social, economic or military group, occupies the highest halls of power:

[Dan 4:34-35 KJV] 34 And at the end of the days I Nebuchadnezzar lifted up mine eyes unto heaven, and mine understanding returned unto me, and I blessed the most High, and I praised and honoured him that liveth for ever, whose dominion [is] an everlasting dominion, and his kingdom [is] from generation to generation: 35 And all the inhabitants of the earth [are] reputed as nothing: and he doeth according to his will in the army of heaven, and [among] the inhabitants of the earth: and none can stay his hand, or say unto him, What doest thou?

This is peace

Do you want to know why that news website’s ad evoked in me not just pity, but also peace? It is because this high and lofty One is my Father.

Knowing something about the happenings in Washington DC is good, but it’s not the way into the halls of power. Going inside the halls of power doesn’t require membership in an exclusive group that gets face-time with a senator. Going inside the halls of power doesn’t require endless Googling to unearth some secret that “they” don’t want you to know.

This is how to go inside the halls of power, my friends:

[Isa 57:15 KJV] 15 For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name [is] Holy; I dwell in the high and holy [place], with him also [that is] of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.

Humility is the way into the halls of power. We must go down before we go up. We must become as children in order to gain an audience with this high and lofty One. We must cry out:

[Psa 130:1 KJV] 1 [[A Song of degrees.]] Out of the depths have I cried unto thee, O LORD.

How does a child approach his father? The first word is “Daddy”. So, when we want to approach our Heavenly Father, when we want some peace in a world of coronavirus, war, famine, poverty, hatred and betrayal, when we want to go inside the halls of REAL POWER, this is what we should say:

Our FATHER which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as [it is] in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For THINE IS THE KINGDOM, and the POWER, and the glory, for ever.

Amen.
