When I look at my daughter

When I look at my daughter, I sense her eternal value, her inestimable worth.

And yet, if we really are just the product of random collisions of stars, then that sense is really just an emotion. It’s nothing more than chemical reactions in my brain, honed by evolution over millions of years.

Look at your loved one. Do you really and truly believe that person is just an accident, existing only because it’s a type of accident that’s better at making copies of itself than other accidents are? In the final analysis, merely a more specialized arrangement of stardust than the arrangement of stardust that is your toenail clipper?

Oh, no, my friend. Tell me you don’t truly believe that.

When I look at my daughter, I sense an unseen reality, just as real as 2+2=4 and the Empire State Building. I sense her soul. I sense the spark of the divine.

When I look at my daughter, I sense the image of God.

Wow.

Comments are super easy! Most comments will immediately be posted. You can use a fake email address and name if you want, I don't mind at all. I just want to hear from you 🙂
RSS:
On the side of the screen (or the bottom, depending on what device you're using), look for the "Meta" heading. Under that heading, there is one link for the entries feed (meaning, all my blog posts), and another link for the comments feed. Tap the one you want, and then use an app like flipboard or podcast addict to subscribe. I don't know about all the choices out there, but I use Podcast Addict to keep a steady stream of audio podcasts and blog posts flowing into my phone.
